Producer Spotlight: Maestro Z.O.O.M

Here’s a shout out to a producer that I discovered via Reverbnation a few years back. Since then I’ve come to consider him and a friend a true representative of what hard work looks like from the ground up.

I do my best to do my own due diligence when it comes to music. Relying on mainstream can you leave you in the dark. Z.O.O.M is worth mentioning for a few reasons. Even though he is from the same city as me (and in alot of ways represents the same struggle) he is his own man with his own vision. You can hear it in the music. Although Z.O.O.M.’s production sounds like noone else I’d like to compare him to a young Russell Simmons. The Z.O.O.M. brought memories back when he reposted  his track that initially caught my attention (on youtube)  “I Get Dough” Swerv-O (2006). Raw drums and a guitar sample… that’s why he is reminiscent of a young Russell Simmons to me. Check out the track:

More about Maestro Z.O.O.M:

The Maestro Z.O.O.M. (Isaiah Gray) is a Boston area Hip Hop Artist, and Music Producer. He is a 2011 Boston NAACP Image Award recipient, and winner of two New England Urban Music Awards. He is a performer known for his “one man orchestra” style of music production, and vocalization. The acronym Z.O.O.M. breaks down a description of his production demeanor. He “zones Out On Music”, as he gets into his trance-like mind state of creation.

Before production became his primary focus, he was a rap artist, who has performed with some of the regions most historic, and successful artists.

Producer Spotlight: 1981

REDMAN – CANT WAIT 1981 mix

Found this channel on Youtube created by a  Producer who goes by the name of 1981. The Producer/Beatmaker is a self proclaimed hobbyist and says “that i in no way take this stuff seriously , but then from the scruffy half assed style of ma mixes and choons thats pretty self evident , i do it jus 4 fun.” At any rate I think this mix is worth mentioning so I’m putting you on to it:

Fred The Godson Brings Back Witty Lyricism

A lot of rappers have been talking about being lyrical but the bar has been so low that just saying something that makes sense is considered lyrical nowadays. There really isn’t anybody being clever with it anymore. Rappers are either having fun being stupid or too serious to enjoy the music. Fred is bringing a good balance. Check out the music video for “Hip Hop” featuring D-dot Angelettie a.k.a The Madd Rapper.

I’m excited to see Angelettie back in the game too. I remember the Tell ’em Why You Madd skit and the guest appearance on 50 Cent’s “How to Rob”. I had fun listening to music back then and I can see it coming back.
