Romney Under Fire Because Of Ted Nugent Comments "If Obama Is Re-elected I'll Be Dead or In Jail"

Just recently Hilary Rosen made headlines for disparaging remarks directed toward Ann Romney. It’s reported that the Obama Administration was pressured to distance itself from the statements of Hilary Rosen. Now it’s Mitt’s turn. The politically driven YT channel DemRapidResponse has posted a video featuring audio from a radio show in which Romney referred to “getting to know” Ted Nugent as fun. The video then features clips of controversial and inflammatory remarks that Nugent has made toward the Obama administration:

Ron Paul 2012 Ad Targets The Patriot Act [Video]

The USA PATRIOT Act (commonly known as the Patriot Act) is an Act of the U.S. Congress that was signed into law by President George W. Bush on October 26, 2001. The title of the act is a ten letter backronym (USA PATRIOT) that stands for Uniting (and) Strengthening America (by) Providing Appropriate Tools Required (to) Intercept (and) Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001.

The act, a response to the terrorist attacks of September 11th, dramatically reduced daily freedoms of the American public and restrictions in law enforcement agencies’ gathering of intelligence within the United States; expanded the Secretary of the Treasury’s authority to regulate financial transactions, particularly those involving foreign individuals and entities; and broadened the discretion of law enforcement and immigration authorities in detaining and deporting immigrants suspected of terrorism-related acts. The act also expanded the definition of terrorism to include domestic terrorism, thus enlarging the number of activities to which the USA PATRIOT Act’s expanded law enforcement powers can be applied.

On May 26, 2011, President Barack Obama signed a four-year extension of three key provisions in the USA PATRIOT Act: roving wiretaps, searches of business records (the “library records provision”), and conducting surveillance of “lone wolves” — individuals suspected of terrorist-related activities not linked to terrorist groups.

Republicans and "Tar Babies"

Is there a trend here?

Some of the Republicans who were unaware of the racial connotations behind the term “tar baby” (John McCain and Mitt Romney) were the MOST prominent in the Republican party. Colin Powell was blasted in 2007 for making the statement that the Republican Party was “out of touch” when he gave his endorsement to Barack Obama. Was Colin Powell onto something?

incident 1:

“The best thing politically would be to stay as far away from that tar baby as I can,”

recant:

“He was unaware that some people find the term objectionable and he’s sorry if anyone’s offended,”

-Eric Fehrnstrom (Rep for GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney) 2006

incident 2:

“For me to stand here and … say I’m going to declare divorces invalid because of someone who feels they weren’t treated fairly in court, we are getting into a tar baby of enormous proportions and I don’t know how you get out of that.”

recant:

“I don’t think I should have used that word and I was wrong to do so.”

-GOP Presidential candidate John McCain 2007

incident 3:

“Now I don’t even want to have to be associated with him (Barack Obama). It’s like touching a tar baby….”

recant:

“I certainly had no intention of offending anybody. Hopefully the President will not be offended if he is even aware of this”

-GOP Congressman Doug Lamborn 2011

Yes there’s a trend here. Just for giggles I’ll share with you an article I read on Wikipedia. The article implies that Walt Disney Studios is more aware of race relations in the U.S. than some Congressmen:

“Walt Disney Studios released Song of the South, which contains the Tar-Baby story, in 1946. The film was never released on VHS in North America due to issues relating to race. The ride Splash Mountain, which is in four of the Walt Disney theme parks, is based on the stories by Uncle Remus. However, instead of the Tar-Baby, Br’er rabbit is captured in a beehive. The changes may have been made to avoid similar racial controversies that prevented Song of the South from being released on home video.”

“Tar Baby is also a name, like nigger, that white people call black children”

-Toni Morrison 1995

Years ago Colin Powell said that the Republican Party was in trouble. Was he right?
